My math tutor [Part 1]
I don’t know if I believe in heaven or hell, and that’s for another post in another time. But I have a list in my head of people who I think should definitely go to heaven if it exists. The list has only 3 people. And one of them is my math tutor.
My math tutor is the type of person who upon knowing him, you’ll immediately know that he is a genuinely nice guy. He’s a middle aged guy, and has been teaching for years. Never angry, soft-spoken, patient, and just generally pleasant.
Instead of writing down how he’s such a good person, I think it would be easier if I just told you some things he did. The first time he came to teach me and my brother, my mom asked him how much is the tuition fee, and he says: “up to you.” Then, this one time, my calculator ran out of battery. It was those circle batteries that were hard to find. So he says he’ll help me look for the battery. He brings me the batteries the next lesson and I offered to pay for it. Of course, he refuses.
One time, I asked him to teach me how to inject ink to my ink cartridge with a syringe for my printer. The next lesson, he brings me his bottle of ink and a syringe and shows me how to inject the ink into the cartridge. And gives me the ink and syringe. I offered to pay for it, but of course, he refuses.
I know for some people these things might mean nothing. And yes, the batteries and the ink are probably not worth a whole lot, but he really didn’t need to go out of his way to get me those things. And for nothing in return at that.
