High School

It’s probably way too late to write about high school since I graduated in 2010, but recently, I saw a 9gag post about graduation and how the guy was happy to leave school since he always hated it. Then I saw the comments and as it turns out, he wasn’t the only one who hated school. It got me thinking, why would anyone hate school?
Yes, university is great and I have no complaints about it. I enjoy everyday of my university life and am grateful for it. But high school was something else.
I miss high school. I miss:
  • not doing my prefect duties and letting HoonHoi do all the work.
  • going up the 1st floor during assembly and gossiping with Chaitanya, Sai, and Sriraj while pretending we were doing important prefect work.
  • dance practice with Kevin, Billy, Cynthia, Amoi, Livia, Woosung, Sumin, Uki, and Misoo.
  • eating lunch with Lengkong, Marco, Stephen, Calvin, and Andrei.
  • the thrill of bunking
  • eating Jeremy’s french toast.
  • filming with Harry, the most troublesome actor in the world. hahah
  • hanging out in the usual place after school.
  • saying “bunking miss/sir~” or “free periodd” or “mi goreng dobel mbak” or “good morninggg sirrr~”.
  • choir practice with Ms Yeni. Econs with Ms Anuradha, Business and Management with Ms Padma, ESS with Sir Manish, Mandarin with Liu Lao Shi.
  • gosipping with basically anyone that had anything to share.
  • ‘curhat’ sessions with Rin
  • also, her inability to whisper/naturally loud voice
Hell, I even miss that ridiculous sound Richardson’s shoes made. And I can list everyone and everything I miss about school, but there wouldn’t be enough time and space.
It’s funny because when you’re young, everything feels like the end of the world. But that’s what young people are supposed to do. And to all those people who just can’t wait to grow up, I have this to say: it can wait. While you’re young, make mistakes, learn new things, ask your crush out, take lots of pictures, get hurt, be happy, try everything (that doesn’t kill you). And this is cheesy, but true - make every second count, because you can do a million different things but at the end of the day, there just isn’t enough time before you grow up.
And to all those miserable people who hate school. I guess remember that happiness is a choice. You can choose to be happy, stay in a good mood, and make the most of whatever you have or you can choose to blame everything and everyone else for your unhappiness. If you have no friends, make some. Join a club, do sports, be more open. If you’re being bullied, sack up and stand up for yourself just one time. If that doesn’t work, find some friends to stick with because there’s strength in numbers. There’s a solution for everything. But it starts with you.
And finally, since I never made a ‘goodbye note’ when we graduated, I wanna say thanks to everyone (and I mean everyone) I know in class of 2010. You guys are the best and you made it so easy for me to enjoy and cherish school.
